Thank you to everyone who filled the room at the Radisson on 22 October for Powering Suriname's Growth.
For one evening, the regulator, the utility, engineers, investors, consumers and the public worked through Suriname's power gap together. Three things stood out:
- New plants are expected from 2029, so the years in between need storage, solar and smarter energy use
- Grid-connected rooftop solar is already legal
- A national energy-saving campaign can start now, at low cost
And the bigger picture is good news. EBS expects demand to double within ten years. That means work for Surinamese engineers, installers and businesses.
Thank you to the speakers who made it such a strong conversation: Shemar Soe-Agnie (SITA, Suriname Investment and Trade Agency), Brigitte Burnett, Anand K. and Juan Accord (Energy Authority Suriname), Pancham Robert (EBS), Orlando Olmberg (Suriname Energy Chamber), Steve Gerling (Surinaams Standaarden Bureau), Albert Alleyne (Consumentenkring), Andrew Murdoch (Arche Energy) and Robbin Gajadin (Axiom Solutions).
And thank you to Arche Energy, the Energie Autoriteit Suriname (EAS) and TCF productions for helping make it happen.
This was a first step, and the conversation continues. If you were in the room, what was your biggest takeaway?
